The staff at Cow Hill Kennels would like to make you aware of new bug that is making dogs ill in Lancashire
Initially affecting Yorkshire and the North East, the illness recently spread to the North West, including Burnley and Preston.
Although it hasn’t been confirmed, some sources believe it could be linked to coronavirus.
LancsLive recently reported “there has been one confirmed case of a dog testing positive for Covid in the UK, which happened last November. At the time the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said that cases like this were extremely rare and there was no strong evidence to suggest that dogs, cats or other pets were passing on the virus to humans”.
The symptoms to look out for are a refusal to eat, lethargy, sickness and diarrhoea.
The British Veterinary Association says that if you suspect your dog has the illness, you should seek veterinary advice and keep your pet at home just in case to avoid spreading.
The good news is that in most cases, dogs go on to make a full recovery following veterinary care.
