Following a routine annual inspection, we are delighted to have been awarded a 3-star rating from the local authorities. This is the highest rating available for a kennel of our size and location.
As part of the new Animal Activities Licensing Regulations 2018 (AAL), which came into force on 1st October 2018 every licensed business boarding kennels, boarding catteries and dog daycare must apply for a license from their local authority.
This guidance was updated in February 2022 and as a result dog and cat boarding premises are now subject to more rigorous controls.
For us to be granted a 3-star rating, the inspector had to be satisfied that the license holder Jennifer Holland was able to demonstrate the following:
- Specialist knowledge of the species they are caring for and a clear understanding of its needs and welfare. This would include the animal’s mental and physical health, feeding and knowledge of environmental enrichment.
- The applicant should be able to demonstrate that they have researched and followed expert guidance to carry out their role.
- Comprehensive records are maintained containing all the information required by the conditions that apply to their particular activities. An understanding of risks involved in caring for the animal, including an extensive risk assessment and written policies and procedures that are reviewed regularly. These documents should be available for the Inspector to examine.
- Training procedures are in place to make sure staff know what is expected of them, and clear evidence of good supervision of staff.
Once granted, the star rating will apply for a period of two years.
This is a great achievement for us and is a testament to all our team members who are committed to delivering the very best animal care.
